New signs have appeared at Maldon's Promenade Park in a bid to help promote better social distancing.

The digital signs feature a series of changing messages to help remind park users of the need to stay 2 metres apart from those from other households - and emphasising the fact that at the moment the local park is for local users.

Last weekend (16 and 17 January) saw a number of cars turned away by police after it was discovered that some of the occupants had travelled from as far as Basildon and parts of East London.

A spokesperson for Maldon District Council said: "We want to emphasise the message that to keep local people safe, the park is for local people only at the moment.

"When restrictions are lifted and things return to nearer normal there will be a time when we welcome visitors from further afield once again - but not right now."
