A wall hanging - one of a set of four from the old Jubilee Hall - was finally reunited with the other three at Maldon Town Hall this week.

The current Town Hall on Market Hill is built on the site of the former Jubilee Hall until it was demolished and the new building took its place. The four wall hangings had been painted in 1971.

At a meeting of Maldon Town Council on Monday, 7 June - where new Mayor Councillor David OGG presided over his first physical meeting of the full council - one of the items that

came up was the long-awaited return of the missing wall hanging, which was unveiled by the Town Clerk to

the assembled councillors.

Three wall hangings were put into storage under the care and control of Maldon District Council until Councillor Mark Heard arranged for them to be returned to the town hall in 2016, when he was Mayor as he felt the hall had always sounded

very hollow.

Unfortunately the fourth was not available as it was already on display at West Maldon Community Centre - until last year when during decoration it was decided to finally take it down.

With the Town Clerk and the consent of the council the fourth piece was rescued and rehung in the Town Hall at the rear of the stage where now all four can be seen.

Cllr Mark Heard said: "I am delighted to see all four pieces reunited and on display."

The Mayor said that although the hangings had "little artistic merit" - it was still part of the Maldon story and he was pleased to see them reunited.
