MALDON bypass remains closed – with police and recovery vehicles still at the scene – five hours after a crash that has left three people fighting for their lives.

Four people – including a baby – were trapped and fire crews from Maldon, Chelmsford and Basildon rushed to the scene.

The accident on the A414 Heybridge Approach, close to the bridge over the River Chelmer, happened at around 2.40pm today (Friday 7 August).

The baby in one of the vehicles was taken to hospital as a precaution, while a woman in her twenties and a man and woman in their fifties all have life-threatening injuries.

A black Ford Kuga and a white Ford Transit van were involved in the crash.

Police investigators would like to hear from anyone who saw the accident, particularly those with dash cam footage. Please contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit by emailing serious collision investigation unit or call 101.
