Job Title: Maintenance Engineer
Location: Maldon, Essex Department: Engineering / Maintenance Employment Type: Full-Time
Job Purpose:
To provide first-line maintenance support across all production departments, ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and performance. The role involves hands-on technical work, team coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives to minimise downtime and optimise operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver prompt and effective maintenance support to production teams.
- Lead fault diagnosis and advanced electrical repairs on production line equipment.
- Maintain, calibrate, and service equipment to ensure operational reliability.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment.
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement long-term solutions.
- Plan and allocate maintenance schedules to minimise production disruption.
- Supervise contractor work and ensure compliance with site standards and safety policies.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, and modification projects.
- Develop and monitor preventive maintenance schedules for critical assets.
- Introduce predictive maintenance practices to reduce unplanned downtime.
- Maintain accurate records and logs of all maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting:
- Identify and implement engineering solutions to improve equipment performance and energy efficiency.
- Recommend upgrades or replacements for aging equipment.
- Report maintenance KPIs, downtime analysis, and resource utilisation to management.
Qualifications & Skills:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance role.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, and mechanical components.
- Familiarity with HVAC, refrigeration, and compressed air systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to lead and coordinate a team effectively.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
