MALDON has a brand new 'friendship' bench - thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous donor.

The community-minded donor gave the money to the Maldon in Bloom team in 2020 - and the bench on the pathway to Longfield's surgery, towards Park Road from Olympic Avenue, will now provide a place where people can sit and chat to friends, neighbours - and, of course, complete strangers.

A spokesperson for Maldon Town Council said: "Our thanks to the Maldon in Bloom team for donating the new bench. It is hoped the bench will be used and loved by many."

Maldon In Bloom Chairman, Councillor Flo Shaughnessy, said: "Our thanks go to the kind donor and to Debbie Horrey at Maldon District Council for her co-ordination.

"Now locals can pause for a breather on a brand new bench and enjoy the peaceful surroundings."

The Town Mayor, Councillor David Ogg, Mayoress Sharon Ogg and members of the Maldon in Bloom Committee gathered at the bench to cut the ribbon yesterday (Thursday, 29 July) following its installation.
