THE organisers of Burnham Week have announced that they have opened entries for the event's return in 2021.

Burnham Week 2021 will run from 28 August to 4 September.

Announcing the news yesterday, a spokesperson for Burnham Week said: "We know you are wanting to join Burnham Week again and we are very much looking forward to welcoming you all – previous and new competitors alike – to Burnham Week 2021.

Councillor Wendy Stamp, who has been Burnham Mayor twice, is currently a Burnham Town councillor and leader of Maldon District Council, is a huge supporter of Burnham Week past and present.

She said: "I can't wait for our beautiful town to be vibrant and full of happy faces again. A great deal of hard work takes place by volunteers who no doubt have already started the preparations. Good Luck and stay safe."

The committee has also made some changes for this year following requests.

First starts will be at midday - but some fleets want one start each day while others have asked if they can have two starts each day midweek.

The spokesperson said: "We are going to be flexible and provide the racing each fleet is aiming for."

Canoe, kayak, and stand up paddleboards are also eligible for entry to the Burnham Week 2021.

Trophy Day will include the Town Cup and Houghton Cup races. There will be longer races for all classes on Trophy Day.

Racing is organised by Burnham Week on behalf of Burnham Sailing Club (BSC), Royal Burnham Yacht Club and Royal Corinthian Yacht Club. Members from the three clubs work together on the Race Committee to provide the courses, with starts at Pile House and the BSC.
