A curry night at the café in St Peter's Hospital is set to raise vital funds to save lives in Liam Taylor's name.

Liam, known as 'Fish' to his family, was just 19 years old when he was stabbed to death outside the Rose and Crown pub in Writtle on 31 January 2020.

His family has since set up the Liam Taylor Legacy Fund, which aims to buy defibrillators and bleed kits for schools and community groups to save the lives of people in need of urgent care.

To raise money for the fund, Liam's grandmother, Julie Taylor, is organising a curry night on Thursday 28 October at the café in St Peter's Hospital in Maldon, which she runs.

The team at the popular Taj Mahal Night restaurant in Chelmsford will provide guests with a two-course meal during the evening, at a cost of £25 per person.

£12.50 from each person's booking will go towards the Liam Taylor Legacy Fund to buy life-saving bleed kits, which can provide immediate intervention to stop people from bleeding to death before paramedics arrive on the scene of an incident.

Mahi Chowdhury, from the Taj Mahal Night, said the funds raised will help to give the community "the resources which are fundamental in saving lives".

He said: "Alongside Julie, I personally will ensure my business works to serve the highest standard of food and deliver the best service you expect from Taj Mahal.

"This charity night is where the community gets together and shows that we have not given up."

He added: "We want Liam's legacy to live on, and all the other lives who have gone far too early due to knife attacks."

The charity night is one of many initiatives to tackle knife crime organised by Julie, who has recently installed an amnesty bin at St Peter's café for people to safely deposit knives.

She regularly holds events to raise money for Liam's fund, gives talks as part of her anti-knife crime campaign and is a member of Binning Knives Saves Lives - the group visits busy places in London with its amnesty bin to take as many knives off the streets as possible.

Julie is now busily preparing for the charity curry night, which will open to guests at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

The evening will finish at 9pm.

The cost of the event is payable on booking, and the restaurant is asking for the money to be paid two weeks in advance so that it can finalise an accurate number of attendees before the evening.
