Chelmer Radio is set to celebrate Local Radio Day in Essex tomorrow (Friday 15 October) by coming to Maldon for a special outside broadcast.

Already working in partnership with the Salvation Army locally in Maldon, David Baker, CEO of Chelmer Radio, will broadcast his show from its charity shop on Maldon High Street from 9am to 1pm.

He will be joined by members of the five-piece band Shades of Simon, who will perform some of the great Paul Simon songs from their own show at midday.

There will also be the Hoy Boys Feel Good Friday Shanty at 10.30am.

David said: "The opportunity to actually get out in the area and highlight what local radio means is huge.

"It also highlights how alive and well it is, despite mergers and shared programming in many areas."

Chelmer Radio broadcasts online across mid Essex, covering Maldon, Danbury, South Woodham Ferrers, Witham, Chelmsford and communities in the Dengie.

It launched its partnership with the Salvation Army in Maldon in October last year, and has had a space in the shop ever since where residents can actively engage with the radio station.

Kevin Jennings, the manager of the Salvation Army charity shop, said: "Our partnership with Chelmer Radio is vital in our promotion of what we do.

"Anytime they've ever come here to do anything, the impact it has on us is huge and that really highlights why local radio is so important in the community.

"We are delighted to have Chelmer Radio here on a very special day around the country."

It also has its own app which can be downloaded for free from the App Store and Google Play Store.

Shades of Simon will be performing its own show in Maldon on Friday 3 December.
