Consultation on new 420-place primary school in Maldon launched
Plans to build a 420-place primary school on a new development in Maldon have been revealed.
The school, which is proposed for the new Taylor Wimpey development on Limebrook Way - known as the South Maldon Garden Suburb - would be an academy available to admit students from September 2024.
A 56-place early years and childcare provision would also be built on the site.
Residents are now being asked to have their say on the primary school plans by Essex County Council, which has launched a consultation on the proposal.
A spokesperson for the county council said: "Maldon has experienced a significant rise in the demand for school places in recent years as a result of new housing, rising births and families with young children moving into the area - inward migration.
"There is predicted to be continued pressure on school places in the coming years, mainly as a result of planned housing developments and inward migration."
The spokesperson said the Limebrook Way development "will significantly increase demand for school places in this area of the town, and this proposal responds to it".
The spokesperson added: "The new school would accommodate the need for additional places for pupils residing in and around this area where there has been significant housing development."
The consultation ends on 6 March.
