Maldon Town Council is to delay the decision on the town centre Christmas event for this year until June.

Councillor Michael Pearlman reported to a meeting of the full town council tonight (Monday, 1 February) that the Christmas event working group has put off the decision until then so that a clearer picture on the pandemic situation can be formed.

Cllr Pearlman said: "By then we will know whether we can hold an event this year or whether it will just be lights.

"June is the latest we can leave things to get the ball rolling in time."

The town's popular Vintage Christmas Fayre, usually held on the last Thursday evening in November, was cancelled in 2020. The event draws crowds of thousands and with the narrowness of the High Street, the decision is likely to rest on the position with regard to social distancing by then.
