Here's where you can donate in the Maldon district to help Ukraine

As Russia's invasion enters its sixth day, donation points and fundraising appeals are being set up across the Maldon district to help the people of Ukraine.

Here's how you can help.

Maldon district appeals

Talking Flowers, Maldon

Talking Flowers has set up a donation point instore to collect items for Ukrainian refugees.

You can donate new and unused toiletries.

All Saints Church, Maldon

Items can be brought to the church on Sunday, 6 and Monday, 7 March between 2pm and 4pm.

The collected items will be taken by van across Europe to Poland the following weekend.

St Mary's Church, Maldon

A donation point has been set up in the church.

Christchurch, Latchingdon

A donation point has been set up in Christchurch, in Latchingdon, to collect items for Ukrainian families.

The church will be accepting donations on Wednesday, 2 March from 1pm to 3pm, and Friday, 4 March from 8am to 5pm.

The community café at the St Barnabas Family Centre on Imperial Avenue in Mayland is taking donations between 10am and 12pm on Friday, which will be passed to Christchurch later that day.

Pelican Prints, Burnham-on-Crouch

Pelican Prints is accepting donations from 8am to 5pm today (Tuesday, 1 March) and Thursday (2 March).

Owner Katherine Wilson said residents donated a "huge amount" of items yesterday (Monday, 28 February).

The donations are being collected by resident Gary Law, who has volunteered to take them to a larger collection point at Leytonstone.

You can donate power banks, rucksacks or backpacks, socks, camping equipment, sleeping bags/mats, protein/energy bars, painkillers, cold and flu medicine, wound dressings, plasters, first aid kits, blankets, thermal clothing, hot water bottles, insulated food and drink containers, disposable face masks, insulated flasks, disposable cutlery and cups, baby food, nappies and sanitary products.

Due to limited space, clothing items will not be accepted.

The Cabin Dairy, Burnham-on-Crouch

A cake sale is set to begin tomorrow (Wednesday, 2 March) at The Cabin Dairy, with 100 per cent of money taken going to crisis charities which are providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

Pelican Prints has donated cake toppers to the business to assist with the cake sale.

Harvey Smith & Co, Burnham-on-Crouch

Accountancy firm Harvey Smith & Co has set up a donation point in its Burnham office.

You can donate gauze, painkillers, cotton pads/balls, clean and unused medical syringes, surgical gloves, bandages, saline solution, soap, laundry bags, tea, biscuits, packet food, pasta, rice, soup, batteries and blankets.

67 Latchingdon Road, Cold Norton

A public donation point has also been set up at 67 Latchingdon Road in Cold Norton.

You can donate gauze, painkillers, cotton pads/balls, clean and unused medical syringes, surgical gloves, bandages, saline solution, soap, laundry bags, tea, biscuits, packet food, pasta, rice, soup, batteries and blankets.

Charity appeals

Charities are calling for donations to provide emergency items and support for the people of Ukraine.

Sunflower of Peace

Sunflower of Peace started its first fundraiser in 2015 to help people affected by violence in Ukraine. It is currently raising money to create medical backpacks for doctors and paramedics on the frontlines of the war. Each backpack is designed for groups of up to 10 people and all include a variety of first aid supplies.

Charity United Help Ukraine is fundraising to provide medical supplies and humanitarian aid.

OutRight Action International

Founded in 1990, OutRightAction International is an LGBTQ+ human rights charity. It has created a fundraiser to support organisations helping LGBTQ+ people in Ukraine find shelter, safety and security.

UNHCR

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has created an emergency appeal to help Ukrainians forced to flee their homes.

British Red Cross

The British Red Cross has launched an appeal to provide people in Ukraine with food, water, first aid, medicines, warm clothes and shelter.

Voices of Children

The Voices of Children Foundation is providing non-stop assistance to children and families in Ukraine, offering emergency psychological help and assisting in the evacuation process.

Women's Federation for World Peace

The Women's Federation for World Peace, a women's NGO (non-governmental organisation) founded in 1992, has created a fundraiser to help internally displaced people in Ukraine.
