The Maldon Mud Race team is thrilled to announce a new major sponsor for this year's event, which is now confirmed as Sunday, 15 August.

Organisers of the famous annual event at Maldon's Promenade Park were devastated when Covid-19 meant the cancellation of the 2020 race - but the team are putting all their efforts into ensuring 2021 is a bumper year.

The new sponsors are a new name in Maldon - PGR Builders & Timber Merchants - who are opening a new branch on Wycke Hill Business Park (behind Wickes) in Spring 2021 offering a range of products from timber, bricks, and blocks to HardiePlank Cladding and landscaping products. The branch itself is 52,000sq foot,

initially creating eight job roles and will have a minimum of two delivery lorries servicing the area.

PGR have eight established branches across Essex and Surrey, with another two opening in early 2021 (one being

Maldon). PGR wanted to give back to the community and to help raise awareness for a great cause which is why they

have chosen to be a major sponsor of the 2021 Mud Race.

PGR Managing Director, Steve Atkins, said, "The successes we have seen, despite the impact of Covid-19, have been really encouraging.

"Our current stores are operating well and with two more due to open in the coming months (Maldon and Chelmsford), this is an exciting time for PGR!

"We are looking forward to supporting the Maldon Mud Race and plan to enter a team ourselves! So watch this space…!"

Maldon Mud Race Chairman, Brian Farrington, said, "We are very pleased PGR Builders & Timber Merchants are on

board and will join with other big names in the area including Colchester Porsche, Maldon Tesco and many more.

"We find our sponsors absolutely love this incredible family day out and we certainly appreciate their backing.

"The race continues to be a real spectacle, as well as providing a superb team-building day and allows businesses to showcase their company to a huge crowd.

"We expect entries into the race to go very quickly as many who missed out in 2020 have rolled their place into 2021 so we urge you to register now to avoid disappointment. We are praying that by moving the event to August, it will allow our outdoor event to safely go ahead, once the Covid-19

vaccination programme has been completed across the UK."

Entry to the event is free for spectators and there is a wide range of entertainment for children and adults, as well as a host of street food stalls and artisan drinks plus children's fair in association with local events company, Events Factor.

Maldon Mud Race is a registered charity, raising funds for Essex charities, and the event attracts crowds of around 20,000.
