THE heroes of the Merchant Navy who served to keep the country supplied during the two World Wars - many at the cost of their lives - will be remembered at a ceremony at The Hythe in Maldon on Sunday, 5 September.

Merchant Navy Day is held on 3 September each year and the Sunday event at the quayside will see Maldon Town Mayor, Councillor David Ogg, laying a wreath on behalf of the town.

The ceremony will begin at 11.30am.

A spokesperson for Maldon Town Council said: "Everyone is welcome to attend. Since 2000, this special event has been a special remembrance of the brave men and women who kept our "Island Nation" afloat during both World Wars."

With very limited parking available at The Hythe, visitors are advised to park in Promenade Park or at Edward Bright Close or Butt Lane car park nearby.
