A laundrette in Maldon is offering its machines for free to help people who are homeless this Christmas.

Laundry Place, on Station Road in Heybridge, will be open from 8.30am to 1pm on Christmas Eve for anyone who is homeless to wash their clothes for free.

Kerry Frost, who has run the laundrette with partner Andy Keeble since 2019, said: "We open up the shop for people who are homeless or who are struggling in any way so they can get their stuff clean for Christmas."

The couple first started the initiative in 2019 and are keen to support anyone who may need it.

Kerry said: "It's helped quite a few people."

She is now looking to get in touch with those working with the homeless so they know they can come down on the day to get their clothes washed.

"I've contacted lots of charities and organisations to ask them to tell people that they know who are struggling and are around this area to come and we'll wash all their bits for them," she said.

Kerry and Andy will also be serving biscuits and hot drinks to those who come to the laundrette on the day.

Laundry Place is based on Station Road in Heybridge, Maldon.

You can find more information and contact the laundrette via its Facebook page here.
