Venues across Maldon High Street are lighting up in pink and blue this week to raise awareness of baby loss among residents.

Parents Abby and Dave Ridgewell are leading the initiative in the town in tribute to their son Max, who died at a day old in November 2019 following a full-term pregnancy after Abby, 33, suffered complications during childbirth.

This is the second year that the parents have created a special display in the window of estate agents' William H Brown on Maldon High Street - where Dave, 37, works as a manager - for Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Abby and Dave's display includes pink and blue lights alongside hearts bearing the names of babies who have died during pregnancy or soon after childbirth.

There are over 200 names included in this year's display.

Abby said: "The response this year has been phenomenal, although it's obviously very sad to see so many names in our window display.

"Many of them have been born and lost since our display last year, so this just shows how important it is to remember these precious babies and support the families involved."

Baby Loss Awareness Week runs from Saturday 9 to Friday 15 October this year.

Businesses, landmarks and homes across the country are lighting up in pink and blue for the week, in efforts to support grieving parents and unite them with families across the world to pay tribute to their babies and raise awareness.

Abby and Dave have encouraged businesses across the High Street to take part in the campaign, alongside the Maeldune Centre and Moot Hall, to get people in Maldon talking about baby loss.

"We've been humbled by the response from businesses," Abby said.

"We will continue to reach out to more businesses each year to make Baby Loss Awareness Week bigger and better in Maldon.

"Maldon's bereaved families will never feel alone again."

Anyone who would like their baby's name to be included in the display can still go into William H Brown, at 3 High Street, to be added.
