PLANS have been put forward to turn the former premises of a travel agent on Maldon High Street into a boutique cocktail bar over two floors.

The new 'Ginny's Bar' would be created in the old Tui shop at 70B, High Street, under the proposals to change use from retail to drinking establishment.

The applicants also plan to run cocktail making classes from the upstairs space.

Additional long-term, plans include the establishment of an events service to provide bar set-ups at weddings and parties - and the manufacture of canned cocktails for wholesale and retail distribution via a hired canning line.

Pubs and bars firm Ginny's Limited has its offices in Burnham-on-Crouch.

The plans include internal alterations and state that the new bar would create an estimated three full-time and five part-time jobs.

The bar would be open on Wednesday to Sunday each week, with hours as follows:

Wednesday: 12pm to 12 pm

Thursday: 12pm to 12 pm

Friday: 12pm to 1am

Saturday: 12pm to 1am

Sunday: 12pm to 11pm

The company plans to use many local producers and suppliers and within the application documents it is stated: " The applicant intends to build as much of Maldon's history into their brand as possible, with cocktails such as the Maldon Mule and the Blackwater Bramble being regular features on their menu."

You can find more details of the planning application on the Maldon District Council website at the link here.
