Two people dead after car plunges into pond in Southminster

Two people were found dead inside the car which plunged into a pond in Southminster on Tuesday, Essex Police has said.

At around 8.20am, officers responded to reports that a grey BMW 4 Series Coupe had been found partially submerged in a pond close to Southminster Road following a serious collision.

It is believed that the car left the road near to the junction with Foxhall Road.

Sadly, two people inside the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, following a review of officers' response to concerns for a vehicle in the area earlier in the morning.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "We are currently carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances which led up to the collision and these are ongoing.

"If you witnessed the incident or saw a grey BMW 4 Series Sport Coupe driving in the area early this morning, please call our Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101."

The incident number to quote is 208 of 21 September.
