Maldon Planning Department has received a proposal to build new homes in the Maldon district.

The proposal refers to a 1.89 hectare area at the junction of Steeple Road and Mill Road in Mayland, at the site of the former Plant Growers Nursery.

It includes plans to build 55 homes, 120 car parking spaces and 109 cycle spaces.

The new housing would include 30 homes at market rate, as well as 13 affordable houses and 12 flats.

As part of the Design and Access Statement, the architect for the applicant said: "The site is in a sustainable location for residential development, it provides a mix of nearby uses and is easily accessible by foot or car.

"The site is currently an unsafe and unattractive plot along Steeple road, providing housing here will vastly improve the current state of the land, add architectural interest to the area and build upon the community and sense of place in Mayland."

Applicant Savannah Properties is a premium property developer based in Southend-On-Sea and has built sites across Essex and the South East.

Maldon Planning is expected to make a decision on the proposals by September 29, 2025.

You can access the proposal, and make your views heard, on the Planning Portal here.
