AN application for a new premises licence at The Warwick Arms in Maldon - proposing late nights until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays - will be heard by a licensing sub-committee on Friday (30 April).
The new landlords at the pub, located on the corner of Victoria Road and the High Street, have asked for the following on the licence:

Sunday - 10am to 11pm The sale of alcohol:Monday to Thursday - 10am to 11pm
Friday and Saturday -10am to 1amSunday - 10am to 11pm

New Year's Eve - 10am to 2am. There have been 17 responses to the proposals from nearby residents. All either raise objections to the late-night openings or make suggestions for changes or conditions to the licence. Many of the residents refer to past anti-social behaviour from pub customers when the premises was managed by a number of previous landlords. Essex Police have responded to the application with proposals for 14 conditions to the licence, including among others the use of Challenge 25 (a scheme to help prevent underage drinking), CCTV, a dispersal policy for when patrons leave and record-keeping of any incidents. Maldon District Council's licensing sub-committee will decide whether or not to grant the application, and on any conditions attached to it.
