Armed robbery followed by incident that claimed life of former Maldon man

A former Maldon man has been named as the victim of a crash in a Cambridgeshire village.

John Hayden, 36, who used to live on London Road in Maldon was found dead in a water-filled ditch on Sunday, 22 October.

Cambridgeshire Police said they found Mr Hayden's body inside a silver Ford Focus the waterway in Byall Fen Drove at around 7.30pm.

In the wake of the discovery a man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He is also accused of taking part in an armed robbery.

A statement by Cambridgeshire Police said: "A man has been charged following an armed robbery and fatal collision in Manea on Sunday. Officers were called at about 7.15pm with reports of an armed robbery at Manea Post Office, in Park Road.

"At 7.30pm, officers were alerted by ambulance crews to a car in a water-filled ditch in Byall Fen Drove, Manea. Road policing officers found a man dead in the silver Ford Focus.

"Sonny Loveridge, 25, of Stretham Station Road, Wilburton, Ely, has been charged with robbery and causing death by dangerous driving."
