Maldon High Street: retail businesses are welcoming customers back today
Maldon High Street: retail businesses are welcoming customers back today

More coronavirus restrictions have been eased this morning (Monday, 12 April) as part of the Government's roadmap out of lockdown - and here's a quick reminder of what has changed.

The biggest changes are that non-essential shops, hairdressers, gyms and swimming pools are allowed to open and pubs, cafés and restaurants can serve customers seated outside.

A summary of all the changes from today:

  • indoor leisure, including gyms, can open for use individually or within household groups
  • the rule of six or two households meeting outside still applies - there should be no mixing of households indoors
  • outdoor attractions, such as zoos, theme parks and drive-in cinemas can reopen
  • personal care premises can reopen
  • all retail can open
  • hospitality can open outdoors
  • all children's activities, indoor parent and child groups of up to 15 parents, can resume
  • domestic overnight stays and self-contained accommodation can open only where there is no mixing of different households
  • up to 30 people can attend funerals and up to 15 can attend wakes, weddings and receptions
  • no international holidays are allowed.

This is stage two in the Government's four-part plan, with stage three - when most outdoor restrictions will be lifted and pubs, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, sports stadiums and other venues can reopen indoors - beginning no earlier than 17 May.
