Plans to build three chalet bungalows in a village in the Maldon district have been unveiled.

The developer, Millen Homes, hopes to build the detached properties on the land next to 15 Fish Street in Goldhanger, in the village's conservation area.

The homes would have at least four bedrooms each and have been designed to incorporate sustainable construction methods such as green roofing, living walls, renewable energy and rainwater harvesting.

A single shared driveway would enable access to the homes, which would each have parking spaces at the front.

Joe Dodds from Millen Homes said in a statement that the site has been "designated as an important open green space within the conservation area appraisal".

But he said: "The appraisal does not indicate that the existence of the space continuing to be vacant is important to the character and townscape appearance of Fish Street."

The company plans to maintain the current level of trees on the site and plant new trees around its boundaries.

There have been two separate planning applications to build five homes on the site in the last 15 years, which were both refused following concerns about the impact of the developments on the conservation area.

Mr Dodds said the latest application "proposes a reduction in dwellings to only three dwellings, which aims to maintain the patterns and densities of existing residential development along Fish Street".

He said: "The site benefits from a range of facilities in Goldhanger and would also bring economic and social benefits to the surrounding villages in the area through use of facilities and services.

"The key characteristics of the conservation area such as the front wall and the tree of heaven will be retained and enhanced throughout the development phase."

Maldon District Council will make the final decision.
