PIRATES came to the Prom today (Sunday 9 August) to bring a little swagger to Sunday and raise money for charity at the same time.

Essex Pirate Society's Blackwater Crew made a hearty appearance at Maldon's Promenade Park in full costume, despite the hot weather.

The group raise funds for different local charities, including RNLI and Haven Children's Hospice among others. Individual crew members raise cash for the charity of their choice.

Whenever they appear for a meet-up, the swashbuckling crew are ready and waiting to pose with more ordinary folk for memorable outdoor snaps (socially distanced at the current time).

Pirate Nate Goldbones told Maldon Nub News: "We'd love to recruit more pirates from the Blackwater area. You can visit our Facebook page - Essex Pirate Society Blackwater Crew - to find out more about us."
