Organisers of the Burnham Carnival have confirmed the popular evening procession will take place this year, after it was cancelled for two years in a row due to Covid.

The carnival is set to return to the town on Saturday, 24 September, while the evening procession is planned for 7.30pm.

The grand illuminated procession usually takes place along Burnham High Street after dark, showcasing spectacular floats and colourful costumes from various local clubs and organisations, and attracts thousands of visitors from across the county.

The carnival went ahead last year without the procession due to multiple factors including time, safety, a lack of carnival queens and there being an insufficient number of volunteers on the committee.

The parade begins in the high street and then makes its way down Station Road, Devonshire Road, Arcadia Road, Dunkirk Road, Western Road, Silver Road before returning to Burnham Clock Tower in the town centre.

Organiser Wayne Martin said: "Let's make 2022 great - we have had no procession since 2019."

Applications to hold a stall in one of the remaining pitches at the carnival - from those who are not already regular stallholders - will open in April.

The carnival will begin at 10am on Burnham High Street.

There will be live music, stalls, a kids zone, food and drink, a fancy dress competition, face painting and the annual 999 race.

Further details will be announced later in the year.
