Burnham man charged with unlawful possession of a shotgun

A Burnham man has been arrested and charged following a welfare incident in Burnham-on-Crouch on Sunday evening (March 17).

Police attended a property in King Edward Avenue, Burnham-on-Crouch, after reports of concerns for the welfare of a man at about 6.30pm on Sunday.

Kevin Levins, 70, of King Edward Avenue, has since been charged with possession of a shotgun without a certificate.

Officers from Maldon Local Policing Team and Essex Police Operational Support Club arrived at the property, and the was quickly closed to protect the public.

Alongside the Essex Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service, Essex Police officers worked for several hours to ensure the man was safe. 

Residents have reported spotting armed officers on the road at around 7.30 pm on Sunday.

At about 9.45 pm, officers arrested the man on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

Levins is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday March 19).
