BURNHAM-On-Crouch lifeboat volunteers rescued two cold and exhausted people from the water yesterday (Sunday, 27 June) after their dinghy capsized.

The UK Coastguard called on the local RNLI crews at 1.30pm to help the pair, who were clinging to their capsized dinghy close to Creaksea on the River Crouch.

Both lifeboats from Burnham-on-Crouch were immediately launched and quickly found the casualties close to Cliff Buoy, where a passing catamaran had stood by with them as they waited for the lifeboat volunteers to reach them.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "Upon arrival, one of the volunteer crew members the entered the water to help the casualties right their capsized dinghy and to assist them back onboard - both of whom by now were cold, wet and exhausted."

The D Class Helm then took them under tow into the nearest safe haven of Creaksea Sailing Club.
