IT has been revealed that volunteers at Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI had a busy weekend with two rescues.

First, on Saturday (12 June) the team assisted a yacht that had snagged their mooring line in the propeller - the Atlantic Class lifeboat 'Tony and Robert Britt' was launched and promptly freed the boat.

Then at 6.20pm on Sunday, both the 'Tony & Robert Britt' and D Class lifeboats were launched to go to the rescue of two motor boats, with two people on each. One of the motor boats had entangled its propeller in the other's anchor chain off the River Roach in Shelford Creek.

The incident had started shortly after 6pm when Southend Coastguard were tasked with monitoring the situation from the MOD test establishment on Foulness.

Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI were then called to assist and after a period of time were able to untangle and free the vessels allowing the motor boats to continue their journey.

Both lifeboats full of volunteer heroes then returned to station and made ready for the next occasion that they would be called upon.
