In collaboration with St Peter's Hospital and Legacy Care Plus, the coffee morning will be held on 19 May, to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.

John Walpole, 68, Landlord of The Carpenters Arms in Gate Street, decided to hold the event after his partner Julia saw similar ones advertised on social media.

Dementia is a subject close to the couple's heart, as Julia's father is currently in the late stages of Alzheimer's Disease.

Julia said: "It's been a heart-breaking journey, but it's brought with it as much laughter as it has tears.

"The Alzheimer's Society brings awareness to the condition and how to live with it, along with supporting families.

"It's such an important cause."

Julia also runs Vegilove, a vegan and vegetarian catering company, and has offered to bake all the cakes for free, with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer's Society.

The Carpenters Arms is a traditional community-friendly pub which regularly holds events to bring local people together.

Legacy Care Plus, a healthcare recruitment agency which is helping to organise the coffee morning, runs alongside St Peter's Court Nursing Home on Spital Road, Maldon.

St Peter's Court provides care for those suffering with dementia and other terminal illnesses.

Amy King and Ellie Butcher, from Legacy Care Plus, are working closely with the Carpenters Arms to plan the coffee morning.

Amy said: "Every day, we see the effect dementia has on families and those suffering, which is why we believe raising awareness is so important."

The agency supplies health care assistants and registered nurses to care homes throughout Essex and London which suffer from staff shortages due to COVID, or as a result of the staff shortage crisis which the industry is currently facing.

1 in 3 people born in the UK this year will develop Alzheimer's or another form of dementia during their lifetime.
