As residents of Maldon may have noticed, Carters Steam Fair has returned to the Prom – and Nub News has two £30 online vouchers to give away to two lucky readers.

The vintage fair opened for Covid-safe adventures on Saturday, 15 May and will be in the park until Sunday, 4 July.

The popular attraction should be in town for the next eight weeks - and all dates are now online.

Owner Joby Carter told Nub News of his delight at being back in the town following the pandemic.

He said: "We have been coming to Maldon for many years now and we love it. I had never heard of it until we brought the fair here for the first time, but until last year we've been back every year. It's a hidden gem."

Joby feels fortunate that during 2020 other things came along to tide Carters Steam Fair through. As well as the fair being featured in films and TV shows, including Paddington 2, Rocketman and Call the Midwife, Joby has written and published a book on the art of signwriting – which has so far sold an incredible 4,000-plus copies.

Yet Joby is full of excitement about the chance to run the fair's beautifully restored traditional riders again.

"It's just great to be back," he said, "We sell smiles – that's the important thing."

Joby added: "This is our first trip 'out on the road' since the UK first went into national lockdown and this year the fairground experience is a little bit different. We have been reviewing how we can bring the enjoyment of the fair to our fans, but in a more Covid-secure environment.

"Our new, ticketed fairground experience offers an 'all-inclusive' option for our customers. You select a timeslot, pay one price per rider and are then guided around six iconic rides in sequence by a friendly member of staff."

This guided experience means that Carters will have a maximum of 16 riders on a ride at any one time. For visitors it means no big queues, no crowds, just well-organised fun. The rides will be cleaned regularly and visitors are asked to wear a mask. There will also be hand sanitiser stations around the fair to help give you peace of mind when you visit.

The steam fair is open from 11am to 7pm at weekends and every day in half term. The 30-minute adventures start every 10 minutes with the last entry at 6.30pm.

There are two different 'adventures' to choose from which are arranged in height/age suitability. The 'Little Kids Adventure' costs £12.50 and the 'The Big Kids Adventure' is £15. Booking your trip is essential to avoid disappointment. For more information and to book go to the Carter's Steam Fair website

For a chance to win one of two online £30 vouchers, please email: [email protected] with the words 'PLEASE PICK ME' in the email subject line and the answer to just one question:

-How many rides are included in this year's Carters Little Kids Adventure or Big Kids Adventure deals?

Within the email, please include a name and contact phone number. Entries are restricted to one per household. All entries must be received by midnight on Sunday, 23 May. Winners will be notified, but due to capacity other emails will not receive an answer.

Terms and Conditions – Carter's can't offer cash alternatives, can't give any change, the vouchers must be used against one website order, they must be used online and anyone visiting the fair must abide by the standard terms and conditions that are in place for visitors including current COVID-19 guidelines. Full terms and conditions can be found at the link here.
