Dengie volunteers are on a mission to show frontline workers the gratitude of the local community
One woman's idea of putting together 'gratitude' packages for NHS key workers across the Dengie has resulted in 140 individual bags six hampers being delivered this week, thanks to volunteers across Burnham and a number of the district's villages.
Now the project - called 'Dengie Gratitude Packages - Hug in a Bag' has its own Facebook group and plans deliveries to Broomfield and surrounding hospitals every week through NHS Community Donations. The group also wants to shower other frontline workers with gratitude straight from the community, including those in pharmacies, the postal service, funeral directors, care homes and care agencies.
To make it easy for people to donate, there's an army of volunteers across the villages of the Dengie providing doorstep drop-off point in Burnham, Southminster, Tillingham, St Lawrence, Bradwell, Cold Norton, Althorne, Latchingdon, Mayland, North Fambridge and Steeple.
Kelly Coombs started out on a small scale, working with Maldon district United in Kind coach Amy Melton, but in a short space of time more people decided to help.
Amy told Maldon Nub News: "The project very quickly grew as we had more and more interest and people wishing to get involved.
"Kelly has done such an amazing job organising this as a volunteer and with lots of local residents getting involved as village co-ordinators, helping packaging and donating items."
More details of how to donate goods are available on the group's Facebook page, which you can find at the link here.
Donations the group is looking for include:
-toiletries (hand cream, lip balms & face packs)-treat bars / boxes of chocolate
-boxes / packets of biscuits-hot chocolate - sachets or jars
-tea - standard or herbal-coffee - sachets or jars
-mini marshmallows-individually wrapped cakes
-anything that would be a treat & bring a smile.
