Maldon Town Council has invited residents and visitors to join the annual Remembrance Sunday service - held this weekend on November 10.

The service will gather members of the Royal British Legion, the Church and the community to Maldon High Street, as they honour the service and sacrifice of those that defended our freedoms.

All will meet at 10.50am at the War Memorial outside All Saints Church, where the ceremony will take place.

The ceremony will include a wreath-laying ceremony, the Last Post, the Exhortation and Silence, and the National Anthem, concluding with a march past of local veterans, services, and local cadet groups.

The service will be led by Rev Heather Atkinson of All Saints Church, and will be focused on remembering the Armed Forces, their families, the emergency services, and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Mayor of Maldon, Cllr Andrew Lay, said: "Remembrance Sunday is an important and significant day for our community in Maldon Town. It is an opportunity to come together to pay our respects to all those who have served.

"We look forward to welcoming members of the public to join us."

The drape of poppies will return to Moot Hall this year. It was crafted by more than sixty volunteers, who attached 5000 poppies, in a design by Wendy Munnion.

A temporary road closure will be in effect on the High Street during the event to accommodate the parade and ceremony.

Those laying a wreath must report to the Royal British Legion Parade Marshall at the bus stop outside All Saints Church between 10:30am-10:45am.

There will also be a commemoration event held at Stow Maries Aerodrome in Purleigh, expected to be attended by the Lord Lieutenancy of Essex.
