An engineering company established in Maldon in 1968 has revealed its bid to extend its storage space as it "continues to grow".

Gibbons Engineering Group has submitted plans to Maldon District Council to demolish two industrial buildings on its site on Woodrolfe Road, in Tollesbury, and construct a new building accommodating more storage space in their place.

The company, which employs 21 people, offers a range of products and services across multiple industries and worldwide - including fans, motors, controls engineering components and assembly for the agricultural and commercial sector.

A design and access statement submitted with the plans says the buildings that would be demolished "do not lend themselves to full use by the current business due to restricted headroom and relatively small spans".

It says the building that would be retained has "adequate" facilities but "storage is lacking".

The proposed building would include a protective area to receive goods onsite, a larger goods inwards area "to allow a more logical and better flow of work" and an increased storage area "to allow a shorter response time in distribution".

The application proposes two additional car parking spaces, which would provide a total of 19 on the site.

Maldon District Council will make the final decision.
