Essex Police investigate a series of attempted burglaries across Maldon and Basildon
Officers are currently investigating a series of burglaries, attempted burglaries and attempted car thefts across Billericay, Basildon and Maldon.
The first reported instance of a burglary was reported to Essex Police around 3.30 am December 28 at a property in Billericay.
Following this, Essex police received a further five reports of attempted burglaries across Basildon and Maldon.
Officers have begun carrying out a number of enquiries, including reviewing information from the public about suspicious activity in the early hours of December 28.
Inspector Steven Parry said: "We're investigating each of these reports thoroughly and not ruling out the possibility that they are all connected,
"These crimes are often opportunistic and thieves will be looking for open car doors and houses with insecure windows and doors in order to gain access.
"Whilst being a victim of a burglary or attempted burglary is never an individual's fault, we are asking the public to take all measures to make sure they are not targeted. Please make sure you are locking your car door, especially if you are parked on the street rather than on a driveway or in a garage. Make sure your windows and doors are secure and that any CCTV you may have is switched on and working."
He adds: "We are also asking you to look out for your neighbours, particularly at this time of year where people may have gone away for Christmas. If you see anything suspicious on your street, including someone who appears to be inspecting the property, please report to the police."
There were 24 reports of 'other theft' in the Maldon District in October 2023. In the last year, this number peaked at 38 reports in August 2023.
