A maternity bereavement team has been recognised for the compassionate care its members give families experiencing baby loss after winning three prizes at a prestigious national baby loss awards.

The team from Broomfield Hospital, known as The Blossom Team, were given the coveted title of Bereavement Team of the Year at the Mariposa Awards, run by an organisation who provides free support to people affected by baby loss.

Individual members of the team were also celebrated with a special recognition award in the Compassionate Award, won by Max Ridley-Snell, a Specialist Bereavement Midwife, and another win for the Community Award by Julie Ellingford, the team's dedicated support group volunteer

Of the award, Max said: "Being nominated was a true honour, especially considering what families are going through. It emphasises the importance of compassion, particularly during such a dark time for families who have lost a baby."

One of the many nominations for the team came from Nikki Dolden from Chelmsford, who shared her experience of losing two daughters, Rudy and Aurora, and the incredible support she received from the Blossom Suite team.

Nikki said: "I don't think I would have survived it both times if I didn't have them looking after me. Walking through the doors of Blossom Suite and meeting the bereavement team for the first time, it just felt like all those fears were left at the door."

Deborah Goldsmith, Director of Midwifery at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Our families are our top priority and knowing we're making a positive difference during their most vulnerable time is incredibly meaningful. We're committed to continually improving our services to provide even more comfort and support to families during their time of need."
