A former student at Maldon's Plume Academy is the world champion for his age group, following his win in The Netherlands.

Windsurfer Charlie Dixon, 17, won gold in the male iQFOil fleet by an unassailable 23 points at the Youth Sailing World Championships 2022.

Carl Wakefield, Executive Principal at Plume Academy, tweeted: "Massive congratulations to former Year 11 student from the class of 2016-2021 who has just become the best windfoiler in the world in his age bracket.

"This occurred in The Hague, Netherlands and the win now means he is a front-runner for future Olympic success!"

Charlie now has his sights set on the 2028 Olympic Games, which will be held in Los Angeles.
