A group of Maldon community gardeners have launched a project to "sow seeds of kindness" in the local community, with help from Burnham-on-Crouch businesses.

Members of the Maldon RHS Community Gardens group have stablished a link with the district's United in Kind group - and are taking part in a project called Plant and Grow.

Buckets of compost, seeds and information leaflets about the project have been distributed to different community groups around Maldon.

A spokesperson for the group said: "We hope these mini gardens will bring a smile to faces as they grow over the coming months."

Amy Melton, United in Kind coach for Maldon district, explained: "United in Kind launched a new project called Plant and Grow as a way of sowing seeds of kindness in the community and connecting people together through a shared interest of gardening.

"We have had great support from the community with two local businesses in Burnham (The Limes Farm Shop and Tyler's Discount Store) kindly donating the compost and then volunteers delivering the materials to various community groups and venues in Maldon district.

"We can't wait to see the progress of the planting over the coming weeks and hope that this project has been a good way of bringing people together as we move out of lockdown."
