A significant number of GCSE students have secured "extremely impressive" results this morning (August 24), Plume Academy has announced.

The year group were awarded nearly 400 9-7 (formerly A*-A) grades. 19 students secured eight or more 9-7 (A*-A) grades. There was an "outstanding" 100 per cent pass rate in 18 subjects.

Carl Wakefield, the outgoing Executive Principal, said: "I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of the class of 2018-2023."

Mr Wakefield says the Government's agenda to "significantly reduce" the number of 9-7 grades made the cohort's success even more remarkable.

"This year group of nearly 300 students were also impeccable in terms of their behaviour, attitude and approach throughout their entire six-week summer examination period," he added.

The most impressive results included:

  • Benjamin Frost, who achieved "an unprecedented" nine grade 9s, one grade 8, one grade 7 and one grade 6.

  • Rachel Monk, who achieved six grade 9s, two grade 8s, one grade 7, two grade 6s and a Distinction.
  • Oliver Cooper, who achieved four grade 9s, five grade 8s, two grade 7s and a Distinction.

Vocational and resit students also achieved good outcomes, with almost all the cohort securing the required grades to move onto the next stage of their education, employment, or training.

Craig Farrow, the year group's Head of Year, described his students as "an incredible bunch of individuals".

"I am very proud they achieved what they deserved," he said.

"I'm going to miss being their Head of Year, but I'm pleased that they are now able to move onto their next stages as a result of their hard work and ongoing resilience."

This Results Day marked Mr Wakefield's last major engagement as Executive Principal at Plume Academy. He will be moving to a school in Ongar from September.

"It has been the honour of my professional life to have worked alongside such fantastic students, staff and families these past eight years." Mr Wakefield said.

"I am delighted that my tenure comes to an end on the past two weeks' worth of such pleasing Post-16 and GCSE results."

Last week, Plume Sixth Form students picked up their 'outstanding' A-Level results, celebrating a "virtually perfect" pass rate.
