A new online survey has been launched to hear from people affected by dementia.

Essex County Council has launched an online survey to hear about people's experiences with dementia.

It also aims to find out views on the support available.

Residents are asked to share their views to help shape dementia support services in the county.

The existing community dementia support service will end in March 2025.

Engagement taking place now will help shape what the new service might look like beyond this.

Current support includes:

  • Giving people the tools to remain independent, and as part of their community, for as long as possible
  • Working with communities to ensure that they understand dementia
  • Supporting communities to be inclusive of people living with, and affected by dementia
  • Providing access to information and support that helps people adapt to a life with dementia
  • Helping individuals and families have the knowledge, confidence, and support networks to live independently

Councillor John Spence, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care said: "So many of us have been affected by dementia in some way, shape or form.

"We are committed to making sure those that are living with dementia and family and friends that support them have the best possible support services to lean on.

"To do this, it is really important to learn from real-life experiences and speak with people affected by dementia.

"This will help us shape our future support services in line with what people want and need. I would urge people to take our survey and share their views."

The survey can be completed online and will be open until 13 June 2024.

The views of those living with dementia, their families and carers are sought, however anyone can take part.

The council would also like to hear from people who work closely with those affected by dementia.
