A church in the Heybridge Basin has raised £870 to support a cancer charity.

St George's Church, on Basin Road in Heybridge, held its eighth annual Macmillan coffee afternoon last week to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan provides physical, emotional and financial support to those living with cancer in the UK.

The coffee afternoon at St George's Church was attended by a large number of residents, who enjoyed a wide variety of home-made cakes which they had provided themselves.

A total of £870.33 was raised from residents' donations and through the raffle which was also held during the afternoon.

Organiser Sharman Milsted said: "I want to thank my team of helpers and the basiners' continued generous support.

"We are so lucky to live in this unique village."
