750 people attended a protest event on Sunday evening (March 17) at St Peter's Hospital, Spital Road, to protest Mid and South Essex ICB plans to close the community hospital.

Community action group "Save Maldon's Medical Services" organised the event, which aimed to circle the hospital in light and raise awareness of community opposition to the changes.

Police attended but the event remained peaceful, with hundreds chatting and sharing their views.

The changes proposed by the NHS ICB include moving stroke beds, ambulatory services, and the maternity unit away from St Peter's to alternative sites across Essex.

If agreed, this would result in the closure of St Peter's Hospital.

The event takes place only days before the Maldon Town consultation meeting on the proposals.

Many thanks to Christopher Cook, Richard Gossling, and Zoe Harris Cpagb for their photography.
