THE owner of the former Chameleon Jewellery shop on Maldon High Street has announced that he is standing as an Independent candidate for the Heybridge East seat on Maldon District Council in the 6 May elections.

Alan Outlaw, who was also director of Heron Print and has lived in the district for 17 years, said: "I have served previously as a councillor and I held committee positions in both finance and planning. I am ready for the challenge to serve again.

"I know Heybridge residents need to be heard, be represented strongly and not dismissed lightly. I think we can be easily overlooked as an 'annex of Maldon', but Heybridge has so much to offer! I think we are being overlooked and under-represented.

"I want to provide a voice for Heybridge residents and ensure that what Heybridge residents are concerned about is heard. I will do my best to initiate change that breathes some vibrancy and life back into our gem and encourage a greater appreciation of the area we call home.

"I want to use the experience I have to get things done without delay, fuss, confusion and especially, without red tape. If you spend money as if it is your own, you will never go far wrong."

Alan's Key Priorities:

-Safe and well-lit streets

-Facilities for young people

-Heybridge business opportunities.
