A radio station which serves Maldon and other areas in mid Essex is planning to raise awareness of baby loss during its daytime programmes this month.

Chelmer Radio will highlight the isolation many local people experience after pregnancy and baby loss - including women, partners, other family members and friends.

David Baker, the programme director at Chelmer Radio, said: "This is a hugely distressing and emotional time for many people.

"What we aim to do is let people out there know there is help and how good it is to talk.

"We are also trying to get as many businesses and organisations to light up their buildings in pink and blue to pay tribute to those beautiful babies who have been lost."

A series of interviews will be aired on the daytime show from 10am until 1pm each day from Saturday 9 October to Friday 15 October, which is when Baby Loss Awareness Week will take place.

Each year, Baby Loss Awareness Week aims to get people talking about pregnancy and baby death in the UK.

Dave and Abby Ridgewell are among those aiming to raise awareness of baby loss in Maldon during the week, in tribute to their baby son Max.

The parents will create a special display in the window of estate agents' William H Brown on Maldon High Street - where Dave works as a manger - to pay tribute to babies who have died during pregnancy or soon after birth.

Other businesses and venues in Maldon, including All Saints' Church and Moot Hall, will also be lighting up in pink and blue to mark the week.

Anyone who would like their baby's name to be included in the display can go into William H Brown, at 3 High Street, to be added.

There will also be a sign in the window on the week to encourage people to add their baby's name to the display.
