Maldon Books is set to host its first indoor event since the pandemic began this Friday 3 September, when it will welcome author Nandana Dev Sen for a "special" evening at the bookshop.

The evening at Maldon Books, at 23 High Street, will include an interactive poetry reading with Nandana followed by a Q&A with writer Farrukh Dhondy.

Olivia Rosenthall, who owns Maldon Books, said: "We're so looking forward to welcoming Nandana Dev Sen to Maldon Books, and hosting our first indoor event in over a year.

"We were so lucky to have the opportunity to host a handful of events before the first national lockdown, including in-person discussions with Salley Vickers and Gillian Darley.

"It's been a long time, and there is still so much that we haven't been able to do for our customers since opening in 2019."

Nandana is an award-winning actress and children's rights activist, as well as an author.

She has written six children's books, translated into 15 languages globally, and a fiction series for young adults.

She will be reading from her latest book Acrobat, a collection of poems which was published in May, at Maldon Books on Friday.

Acrobat is "a radiant collection of poetry about womanhood, intimacy, and the body politic that together evokes the arc of an ordinary life".

Olivia said: "We'll have special measures in place to ensure that we can make the event as safe as we can, and we're looking forward to a special evening at our bookshop."

Tickets cost £3 each and can be purchased from Maldon Books' website using the link here or in the shop.

The ticket price can go towards the purchase of one of Nandana's books at the event.
