The Chair of Maldon Business Board has spoken out about her hope that the local community will support local businesses during the second national lockdown - and in the run up to Christmas.

Allison Gray, who also owns Willow and Fox in Quest Place, said: "The second lockdown has come into force quicker than I think any high street business was prepared for. We went from Tier two where everything remains open to lockdown within days.

"The high street independents have been here once before in March and so we are all well equipped for lockdown, however, it is indisputable that our independent high street businesses will suffer huge financial losses.

"As the Chair of Maldon Business Board and a small business owner myself (Willow & Fox) I know only too well the effects lockdown has on our businesses. We have tough times ahead.

"November and December are ordinarily the busiest months for retail in the lead up to Christmas, but closure will inevitably mean huge losses. It's very sad and frustrating, however, public health remains the most important aspect.

"Maldon high street businesses all appreciate how much the NHS and key workers do for our community. We can only hope that the local community supports small businesses and does not flock to Amazon and the big retailers.

"We ask the public to think small business and shop local to support our local economy. A full list of business services will be available next week. Many high street businesses will offer free delivery, click and collect and discounts.

"I personally would like to thank the public for their support to date. It's so very much appreciated."
