Maldon Carnival Newsletter

23rd Nov 2020 | Local News

It's certainly been an unusual year for Maldon Carnival with no Carnival Week or Carnival Procession. The Carnival has continued to support the local community.

Here's some of the things we have done this year:

-we gave £100 to Wentworth Primary School to help them maintain their swimming pool

-we helped Colchester Zoo by sponsoring an animal during their 'emergency campaign'

-during the national lockdown in March when all the schools were closed, we gave out over 700 'Keep Smiling' wristbands to school age children

-we organised virtual events like our Talent Show, Children's Bingo played over Zoom, Adults Bingo and more.

The Carnival Court have been busy, too, during lockdown. They have made cards for retirement homes, VE day pictures for veterans and more. Two new princesses have joined our court, Grace and Mia, who are both looking forward to representing our town.

After the lockdown the Carnival helped Tesco's Maldon to organise a family Halloween event where children had to solve a cryptic clue to receive a bucket of treats. All the treats that were left over were offered to the local community for a small donation.

Our committee of volunteers are feeling positive for next year with lots of ideas of events we can do. Ideally if the situation changes, we are hoping to do the street Procession. However, if that is not possible we do have other ideas like a static procession at the Promenade Park, a community fete or maybe even a winter parade.

We are pleased to announce some exciting events we have planned, plus the launch of Maldon Carnival 100s Club. Most of our events can be played in the safety of your own home over the internet. Our team of friendly volunteers are at hand to help you with any setup needed to take part in any of our events.

Santa's letter, certificate and a present delivered by Santa's Elves

Unfortunately, we are unable to do Santa's Grotto this year, but do not despair. Santa's Elves will be delivering personalised letters. A nice boy/girl certificate and a gift from Santa costs just £3.50 per child.
