Maldon Tesco Community Champion Rhiain Oakley has come up with a great idea to help connect care home residents with their local community at a time when visiting is so restricted.

On the wall in the entrance to Maldon's Tesco Extra store, shoppers can now find the 'Wishing Line' washing line penpal appeal.

On the 'washing line' are hung the details of residents from some local care homes who are looking for people to exchange letters with.

Rhiain said: "It's a new idea and takes over from our Wishing Tree at Christmas.

"I've already been sent lists of names of care home residents who want a penpal, so I'm hoping there will be lots of people in the Maldon community who can help out and make their wish come true."
