A planning application has been put forward to demolish Woodham Mortimer Golf Range and build 25 new homes on the site.

The proposal, submitted to Maldon District Council (MDC), involves the demolition of the current building and replacement of the driving range and pitch and putt with up to 25 one and two-storey dwellings.

The proposed site - which covers 3.4 hectares - also includes public open space with an equipped play area.

A previous application to demolish the golf range and replace it with 25 one and two-bedroom detached and semi-detached bungalows was refused by MDC last October.

In its statement on the decision, MDC said: "The application site is in an unsustainable and rural location outside of the defined settlement boundary for Woodham Mortimer where policies of restraint apply."
