Maldon District Council (MDC) has received applications to turn the treatment rooms and offices at the Kings Head Centre into flats.

Kings Head, at 38 High Street, is one of the busiest retail, office, restaurant and residential centres in Maldon.

The section of the centre fronting White Horse Lane on the first floor is treatment rooms, where a change of use has been proposed for a one-bedroom residential flat.

The application documents state: "The proposal requires very little change to the existing layout - only the blocking up of an existing corridor doorway and the introduction of a new entrance door."

Under the plans, the rear treatment room would become a lounge, the reception a dining area and kitchen, and the front treatment room a bedroom with an ensuite.

A further application requests the completion of the change of use from offices on the first floor of Kings Head to another one-bedroom flat.

Currently, Kings Head has one first-floor flat and one second-floor flat.

The centre is a Grade II listed building in the heart of the Maldon Conservation Area.

It dates back to the 15th century, when it was a hotel.

The applications are pending consideration by MDC planning officers.
