Maldon District Council will set its 2021/22 council tax at a meeting tomorrow evening (Tuesday, 23 February).

Members of the full council will vote on a recommendation by officers to increase Band D council tax by £5 - equivalent to 1.93 per cent - taking it to £207.40.

When the 2021/22 charges for the county council, fire service and police service are added together, the annual bill for an average Band D household in the district would move from £1,796.03 in 2020/21 to £1,830.73 in the coming financial year.

However, this amount will vary slightly according to which parish residents live in, as each parish or town council sets its own much smaller charge or 'precept'. The 202/22 figure given above is calculated using the average parish precept.

The increase proposed by Maldon District Council is the most allowed without holding a referendum of the local electorate for approval or veto.
