Maldon & District CVS and Essex Police team up to help protect residents from online scams
A Maldon-based charity has announced it is collaborating with Essex Police to offer free sessions for residents, on how to protect themselves from online scams.
As part of this year's 'Get Online Week', Maldon and District CVS will run two free sessions in partnership with Essex Police's Fraud Prevention Team.
Sessions will be held on:
- Thursday 20 October at Fullbridge Church, Maldon, from 12.30pm
- Friday 21 October at St Barnabas Family Centre, Maylandsea, from 10am
Each session will consist of a talk, followed by a question-and-answer session to update participants on the latest scams.
The charity says it will teach people what to do and whom to run to if they find themselves in a situation where they feel vulnerable to fraudsters. Everyone will be given a free 'Scam Pack' to take away with them.
Get Online Week is an annual campaign organised by the Good Things Foundation. The campaign aims give everyone access to the support they need in order to improve their digital skills, and to motivate them to learn more.
Over the last 14 years, the campaign has helped hundreds of thousands of people get online for the first time.
Maldon & District CVS also runs weekly and bi-weekly drop-in digital sessions, to help people use online services, understand new technologies and perform tasks that have moved online.
These sessions are held at:
- Fullbridge Church, Maldon, every Wednesday, from 10am until 12pm
- United Reform Church, Burnham, every first and third Monday of the month, from 10am until 12pm
- St Barnabas Family Centre, Maylandsea every first and third Friday of the month, from 10am until 12pm
For further information, or to book your free place at the Get Online sessions, contact Carly on 01621 851891 or 07598 701 563.
